The Kansas City Royals are set to open a three-game, weekend series against the Chicago White Sox after blowing a chance for a sweep of the Oakland Athletics with a 3-0 loss on Thursday.

According to reports from Chicago, the White Sox hope to get a boost from DH Paul Konerko who expects to return to the lineup after spending a week on the disabled list. Konerko suffered a concussion last Friday after taking an elbow to the head at first base in Chicago's loss to the Baltimore Orioles.

Manager Robin Ventura is happy with Konerko's progress and expects him to be ready to go on Friday.

"He's doing baseball stuff, so he's doing fine and he's (flying Thursday to Kansas City)," manager Robin Ventura said. "Everything is looking good that he'll be able to come off (the disabled list) Friday and be able to play."

The game is scheduled to start at 7:10 p.m. CT and will be televised on Fox Sports Kansas City.
