Charlie Weis, Bill Self Swap Perspectives On One Another

Kansas Jayhawks' basketball coach Bill Self attended KU's first football practice under new head coach Charlie Weis, and he came away impressed with what he saw:

"This thing is different. And I’m not blasting before. It’s different," Self said. " ... Charlie’s style is very direct, very disciplined, very enthusiastic and won’t put up with any crap at all."

Weis wasn't shy about returning the praise to Self, as he referred to the fact that Self as the "boss in town." He also mentioned that he wants Kansas to be known as more than just a basketball school.

We want KU to be looked at as a dynamic basketball program, and by the way, they’ve got a helluva football team, too."

Weis is in his first year as KU's head coach following a two-year stint from Turner Gill, who finished with a 5-19 record during his time in Lawrence. Gill was hired to replace Mark Mangino who, despite having a fairly successful run with the Jayhawks, was fired following the 2009 season amid allegations of questionable coaching practices.
