Jeremy Guthrie will attempt to continue a two-game scoreless streak Sunday, as the Kansas City Royals host the Chicago White Sox in the final game of a three-game series at Kauffman Stadium. Guthrie lost his first three starts after being acquired from Colorado in late July, but went seven scoreless innings in an Aug. 8 win over the White Sox. He followed that performance with eight scoreless innings in his latest start against Oakland on Aug. 14.
Chicago counters with Jose Quintana (5-2, 2.77 ERA), who last faced Kansas City during Guthrie's aforementioned Aug. 8 win. In that game, Quintana gave up just two runs on five hits over seven innings. Quintana took the win in his last start, going 6 2/3 innings and allowing two earned runs in a 3-2 White Sox win at Toronto.
The Royals have taken the first two games of the series and 12 of their last 18, and will be playing for their first series sweep since taking three from Cleveland earlier this month. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 CT, with coverage on Fox Sports Kansas City.
