Sporting Kansas City defeated Toronto FC 1-0 on Saturday, extending the team's lead in the MLS Eastern Conference to five points. Kei Kamara's ninth goal of the season provided the margin of victory.
A scoreless first half nevertheless provided both teams with plenty of chances. None was better than that created by Graham Zusi, when his pass from the right wing found Teal Bunbury behind the Toronto defense, but goalkeeper Milos Kocic made the save on Bunbury's shot. Kocic saved a second Bunbury shot, produced on another breakaway, late in the half.
Both sides continued to generate chances in the second frame, with the lone goal finally coming in the 83rd minute. Zusi set up for a free kick, but instead passed the ball to the nearby Kamara, who fired a shot around the wall and into goal. For his part, Zusi picked up his eleventh assist of the season.
The win kept Sporting Kansas City undefeated in August and was the club's seventh away win of the campaign. Sporting KC returns to action on August 26, at home against New York Red Bulls.
