There aren't many golfers with Kansas City area connections in the FedEx Cup Playoffs, but there are still many intriguing storylines as the four-tournament event -- beginning with the Barclays this weekend -- tees off.
Jeff Maggert, who was born in Columbia, Missouri, will try to keep his Tour card for the 2013 season, which will depend on finishing ranked in the Top 125 of the points standings at the end of the month. He's currently on the right side of that line, with a ranking of No. 107.
However, the real intrigue for golf fans will come at the top of the points standings, where Tiger Woods, despite going 0-4 at the majors, is ranked No. 1 thanks to his three PGA victories during the 2012 season.
He'll be playing with Rory McIlroy, ranked No. 3, who is coming off a victory at the PGA and could solidify his claim to the title of the world's greatest golfer with a strong showing.
