Missouri native Jeff Maggert shot a 2-under 69 in the first round of The Barclays at Bethpage in Farmingdale, N.Y. Wednesday, putting him in a tie for 26th place.
Maggert carded four birdies, and had an eagle on the par-5 seventh, but three bogeys on the back nine - and four overall - detracted from a four-under front-nine.
Ireland's Padraig Harrington shot a 7-under 64 to take the lead following the first round of The Barclays at Bethpage in Farmingdale, N.Y. Thursday. He has a one stroke advantage over Nick Watney and Brian Harman after the first 18 holes.
Harrington made six birdies on the back nine, including the first four holes, on an increasingly warm day with soft greens. Harrington is looking to make a run at the Ryder Cup team, and his only chance resting with European Captain Jose Maria Olazabal's pick, Harrington is responding early.
Pat Perez, Sergio Garcia, Gary Christian and Jimmy Walker finished 5-under for the day, tied for fourth place.
Tiger Woods shot a 3-under 68 and is tied for 14th place.
