Kansas Women's Soccer Surprises No. 24 Georgia

The Kansas Jayhawks women's soccer team beat No. 24 Georgia 1-0 at the Jayhawks soccer complex on Friday afternoon. It was the Jayhawks' first win over at home against a ranked opponent since 2009.

Junior Caroline Kastor scored the game's only goal in the 22nd minute. Georgia's goalkeeper Ashley Baker was unable to corral Kansas' Whitney Berry's cornerkick allowing Kastor to put in the loose soccer ball into the back of the net.

Kansas senior goalkeeper Kat Liebtrau totaled three saves, while the Jayhawks defense survived an onslaught of eight cornerkicks and nine shots in the match.

Friday's victory provides early season momentum for the Jayhawks who were picked to finish fourth in the Big 12 preseason poll. It was Kansas' first shutout against a ranked opponent since 2009.
