2012 Olympic Medal Count: United States Takes Slim Lead Over China

The United States retook the lead over China for the overall medal count at the 2012 London Olympics after the eighth day. The two countries took turns swapping the lead for most medals, but at the end of the Saturday it was Team USA who holds a one medal lead over China, 54-53.

On Saturday the United States won two more medals in the pool by winning the men's and women's 4x100m medley relay. Then in track and field the United States won a silver medal in the women's 100m and Galen Rupp also won a silver medal in the men's 10,000m. Then in the long jump Will Claye won a bronze medal.
