NASCAR At Pocono 2012: Carl Edwards Has Back Against Wall

Its been a tough season for Carl Edwards that includes bad luck combined with many sub par performances. With the Chase looming, any turnaround is going to have to start soon.

"We have to take chances," he said following the Brickyard 400. "We have to go race. We can do that, we can race like that. It will actually be a big relief in a way because there is no other choice."

A change from longtime crew chief Bob Osborne to Chad Norris following the race at Loudon hasn't provided much of any spark. Currently Edwards sits 12th in points and two spots out of the Chase some 61 points behind Clint Bowyer who is tenth. With six races left it is not out of the realm of possibility for a great driver like Edwards but recent performances don't suggest it as likely.

In the last five races, Edwards has finished higher than 18th just once which was a sixth place finish at Daytona. Most recently he finished 29th at Indianapolis. This is a proven team with a prove driver but the turnaround has to start soon if there will be any salvage to the 2012 season.
