Christian Colon Promoted By Royals To AAA

The Kansas City Royals are getting closer to seeing big league returns on their former first round investment in Christian Colon with the news that the middle infielder has been promoted to AAA Omaha. It’s likely going to be the last stop for Colon this season as he tries out hitting at the top level of the minor leagues.

Colon is the fourth overall selection from the 2010 MLB Draft and he was taken to help solve the woes that Kansas City has endured for some time up the middle. Even this season, multiple players have been used at second base and, for some reason, the club seems to lack confidence in prospect Johnny Giavotella.

Colon spent the majority of the season with Northwest Arkansas also appearing in seven games with the Arizona League Royals rehabbing from a foot injury. The infielder hit .289 in 73 games this season for the Naturals with five home runs and 27 RBI. The Puerto Rican native played both second base and shortstop in his second season with Northwest Arkansas. Colon was originally selected by the Royals in the first round (4th overall) in the 2010 draft.
