The Royals and Orioles have been frequent neighbors in the basement of the American league, but as the two teams meet in Baltimore for a three-game series, the O's are in the thick of the AL wild card race, while the Royals have the worst record in the league. Lefty Will Smith will take the hill for K.C., developing slowly since being called up from Triple-A Omaha. Smith is 2-4 with a 6.00 ERA in seven starts since being called up, and was shelled by the Rangers (eight hits and four runs) in his last start.
