Super Bowl Odds: Kansas City Chiefs Open 2012 NFL Season At 45-1 Odds

A quick look at the official Las Vegas odds for the 2013 Super Bowl make it clear that no one really knows what to do with the Kansas City Chiefs. At 45-1 odds, the team is clearly not among the favorites, yet they're also stuck in the middle of the pack along with a number of teams that could go either way. Chiefs fans are likely shaking their head knowing they feel the same way.

The potential is here for greatness. The roster is deeper than any other time in Scott Pioli's tenure. Jamaal Charles and Eric Berry are back from injury, among others. New additions like Peyton Hillis and Eric Winston are also in house to go with another draft class. In addition, one of the NFL's youngest teams should only continue to get better with another year under their belt.

However the team also has a mystery at quarterback in Matt Cassel, who many don't believe will take the team anywhere. The injury concerns for Berry, Charles and Tony Moeaki will also continue to linger knowing that they're coming back from a full season lost.

The Chiefs have a ton of potential, but the AFC West is vastly different than it was a year ago. It will be interesting to see where things end up and whether or not 45-1 was either too generous or a great bet to take.
