PGA Championship Leaderboard: Rory McIlroy, Gary Woodland Tied For 3rd Behind Joost Luiten

The 2012 PGA Championship is now underway and there's a strong mix of familiar names with newcomers atop the leaderboard so far in the first round with several more still yet to tee off this afternoon. Rory McIlroy played a great early round and is currently at five-under, good for third place. Interestingly enough, Gary Woodland had the same round that McIlroy did and the two sit behind current leader Joost Luiten in third place.

Woodland, a Kansas alumnus, is an interesting player to watch given the roller coaster nature of his season. Rotowire has the word:

Woodland has endured an interesting season. While working on swing modifications, he's posted just one top 25 in a full-field event, and that was a T24 at the Byron Nelson. He's missed only four cuts, however. Yet, he arrived at Kiawah Island in a rut, cashing in just three of his last six starts with one top 70 and zero rounds in the 60s during that span. Today, he eagled the par-5 11th hole, his second of the day, and rolled in four birdies to erase one bogey.
