Inside The OKC Thunder Signing Of Andy Rautins

The Oklahoma City Thunder signed DeAndre Liggins and Andy Rautins on Thursday to fill out the training camp roster, with both players expected to battle with Hollis Thompson and Daniel Orton for the 15th spot on the team.

Rautins was a second-round pick by the New York Knicks in the 2010 NBA Draft after playing four years at Syracuse. The shooting guard has moved around the NBA since then and has never caught on, bouncing from the Knicks to the Mavericks before signing with CB Lucentum Alicante in Spain last season.

Welcome To Loud City breaks down the addition of Rautins to the roster, noting that the guard appears to be a one-dimensional player:

He can shoot. Yep, all of this video is just Andy shooting open threes. Over. And Over. And Over. And Over. He hasn't seen time with the Knicks since 10-11, but back then, he did what you'd expect him to. He shot threes. Nothing else he really did was notable, but he was decently quick, I suppose. The release on his shot was quick and something to behold, but I don't know if that alone could carry him in the NBA.

All in all, I see Rautins in the same vein as Robert Vaden, a late second rounder out of UAB that the Thunder drafted a couple of years back. He was a fantastic scorer in college, and even worked his way to a Thunder roster spot at one point after dominating the D-League. But there's just not much else to warrant putting this guy on the floor.

Rautins has appeared in just five games in his NBA career so far, averaging 1.6 points per game.
