Big 12's TCU will play LSU in 2013 Cowboys Classic

The pairing is set for the 2013 Cowboys Classic that kicks off the college football season: TCU will play LSU.

Kevin Jairaj-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

We're barely into the 2012 college football season, but this week the matchup for the 2013 Cowboys Classic at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas was announced. TCU from the Big 12 Conference will make the trip from Fort Worth and take on the LSU Tigers out of the Southeastern Conference. The game is scheduled for a prime-time television viewing on August 31 on either ABC, ESPN or ESPN2.

This will be the second appearance in the Cowboys Classic for both teams.

Next year's game will mark the fifth Cowboys Classic. The game is part of an agreement between the Dallas Cowboys and ESPN to bring a top college football game to Cowboys Stadium over the Labor Day holiday weekend. The first Cowboys Classic was played in 2009 and featured another Big 12 team, Oklahoma, vs. Brigham Young, with BYU upsetting then No. 3 Oklahoma 14-13. TCU beat Oregon State in 2010, LSU defeated Oregon in 2011 in a battle of top-5 ranked teams, and Alabama beat Michigan this season.

When TCU and LSU meet in Dallas next August, it will be the first game between the two schools since 1868 and only the ninth meeting all-time.
