Sporting KC defeated the Chicago Fire 2-0 on Friday, led by midfielder Graham Zusi's two goals. The win clinches a playoff berth for Sporting. Zusi now has 5 goals on the season, to go along with a league-high 14 assists. Sporting's defense held Chicago to just 1 shot on goal to Sporting KC's 6.
Zusi's first goal came at the 11 minute mark, allowing Sporting to clamp down on defense the rest of the way. Sporting held nearly 60% possession, limiting Chicago's opportunities to rally back. Chicago's one shot on goal didn't come until the 68th minute, but Sporting goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen was able to deny the goal. Zusi's second goal came in stoppage time, sealing the victory.
Following the win over Chicago, Sporting sits two points behind the San Jose Earthquakes in the chase for the Supporter's Shield. The win also puts Sporting 5 points ahead of Chicago in the standings for the Eastern Conference regular season title.
