West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith and his teammate, linebacker Isaiah Bruce, have been named Big 12 Players of the Week on offense and defense, respectively.
↵Kirby Van Der Kamp, the punter for Iowa State received special teams honors for the first week of Big 12 Conference football.
↵Smith threw for four touchdowns and ran for one in West Virginia’s 69-34 season-opening victory Saturday over Marshall. The West Virginia senior quarterback completed 32 of his 36 pass attempts in the game for 323 yards and ran the ball for 65 additional yards.
↵Bruce, playing in his first collegiate game, recorded 16 tackles and made seven solo stops in the Mountaineers win over Marshall.
↵Van Der Kamp averaged 43 yards on nine punts in Iowa State’s 38-23 triumph over Tulsa in Week 1 of the Big 12 season. Five of his punts were downed inside the Tulsa 20-yard line.
