With the 2013 NFL Draft less than a month away, the Kansas City Chiefs continue to play the smoke screen game. Between floating franchised LT Branden Albert on the trade market and holding a private workout with Geno Smith, the Chiefs seem determined to make people believe the No. 1 overall pick is wide open.
SB Nation's Dan Kadar isn't buying any of it, however, and in his new mock draft he continues to mock Texas A&M OT Luke Joeckel to the Chiefs:
The smoke coming out of Kansas City is heavy, and it's not just from barbecue joints anymore. See that? A joke. Ha-ha. The Chiefs are supposedly considering eight to 10 players with this pick, and Andy Reid likes Geno Smith. Allegedly. Apparently. Who knows. Chances are the Chiefs are hoping to find a trade partner to pick up the second-round pick that was used in the Alex Smith trade. If they keep the pick, Joeckel is a smart choice. He can play the right side for a year and make Branden Albert expendable in 2014.
Of course, there's a good chance all these smoke screens are legitimate interest, and the Chiefs really don't know who they will pick. At any rate, this draft class is so muddled at the top that we probably won't know how the top five lays out until Goodell calls out the first name on April 25.
Hang in there. It's going to be a long month.
