The latest news out of London have to be a relief to concerned Oklahoma City Thunder fans, given the circumstances. Russell Westbrook left Team USA's win over Argentina after landing awkwardly on his ankle with just under four minutes remaining in the game and didn't return. Now reports are indicating that it's a sprain:

Even without Westbrook, who played for seven minutes in the win over Argentina, Team USA figures to be in good shape headed to the gold medal game against Spain. As NBA contributor Mike Prada points out at the SB Nation mothership, Team USA without Westbrook will rely more on Thunder teammate James Harden for a defensive presence against Spain.

The United States has, for the most part, coasted through the competition in men's basketball at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, but suffered their first setback when Russell Westbrook left the court in Team USA's win over Argentina on Friday:

Westbrook had nine points in just seven minutes off the bench in the 109-83 win, with the apparent injury coming with under four minutes left in the game, as the U.S. enjoyed a 98-72 lead. He did not return to the game, and headed into the locker room immediately, with assistance.

There's no official word on Westbrook yet, but the win did set up a gold medal match between the United States and Spain, who beat Russia on Friday to qualify for the finals.

Hey, we get it, Missouri: You've spent the majority of your existence in the Big 12's barren North Division, where bleak nine-month winters and the unchecked growth of the counterculture known as "basketbal" blinded your football players to the sight of attractive, somewhat scantily clad women oogling them. But you're ESS-EEE-SEE now, boys, which means that if you've got to stop practice to shoo away two coeds showing a little skin, you're about to be the first program in conference history to lose 10 straight games at Ole Miss:

Judging by the picture, those two ladies seem a little overly tanned and ab-rippled to be running stadium stairs anywhere in the midwest. Did they crossfit their way from Tallahassee? That's always a possibility.

We'd like to tell you that opposing coaches in your new conference hold high the vestiges of Southern gentility, and would never say... "trick out" any of their prettier undergraduates for the purposes of distracting an opposing team, but that would imply that the rage virus known as SEC fandom doesn't automatically prompt a dedicated SEC coed to amp up the cleavage in name of bowl eligibility.

Seriously, Missouri. It doesn't even snow - ever - in like, 80 percent of your new home. You might encounter a few leathery bottle blondes jiggling about, so forewarned is fair warned.

The Royals were able to break their losing streak on Thursday night in their opening game at Baltimore, and will look to help the Detroit Tigers with another win on Friday, as the Orioles and Tigers are tied in the AL Wild Card race. Luke Hochevar will be on the hill for K.C., battling through a sometimes perplexing amount of up-and-down performance issues.
The Charlie Weis era at Kansas will head to the New York / New Jersey area at least once (well, if it lasts that long). Kansas and Rutgers have agreed to a home-and-home football series in the 2015 and 2018 seasons. Kansas will travel to High Point Solutions Stadium in 2015, and host the Scarlet Knights in Lawrence in '18.

The move comes for two programs with very different futures - as a member of the newly reconstituted Big 12, Kansas' future is as steady as they come, with the Jayhawks playing a nine-game conference schedule in a round robin format for the foreseeable future. Rutgers, however, is still in the very tumultuous Big East, and looking to boost their non-conference strength of schedule. While Kansas has been at the basement of the FBS in recent years, their Big 12 status alone can boost the Knights' profile.

Bill Self has taken the Rock Chalk international, and a Jayhawks roster replete with freshmen are getting an education fast. Kansas defeated the Swiss national team 79-76. The two teams are set to play each other again on Wednesday, but Rock Chalk Talk has a breakdown of the first meeting, good and bad:

Kevin Young was statistically probably the best player on the floor with 9 points and 8 rebounds (6 offensive!) in just 13 minutes of playing time. This team isn't going places if Young is the best player, but he definitely has proven he can contribute at a high level

Ben McLemore had an inauspicious debut, going 0-6 from the field and turning it over three times. He did have 7 rebounds though, so hopefully he won't be the type of player who will carry offensive struggles to the other end of the floor.

Check out Rock Chalk Talk for the complete breakdown of what was a very ugly affair (or "learning opportunity," as coaches might say) - KU was 3-of-15 from three point range, and the Swiss were 9-of-35. Team USA does not approve, guys.

Two likely starters on the Missouri Tigers' offensive line are out indefinitely just a week into fall practices. Senior guard Travis Ruth, who started seven games in 2011, will undergo surgery for a torn left triceps tendon. Backup tackle Taylor Chappell tore his left ACL on Tuesday, and will likely miss the 2012 season. Chappell had been practicing with the starting offensive line as starter Justin Britt recovers from a broken foot.

While both injuries are severe, according to Dave Matter of the Columbia Tribune, neither has technically been labeled as season-ending by the team:

Moller said team trainer Rex Sharp is not declaring either injury as season-ending, but there is no specific timetable for their return. Ruth redshirted in 2008 while recovering from foot surgery and would be eligible to apply for a sixth year of eligibility if he misses the season and wishes to extend his career.

So far the Tigers have inserted a freshman and a junior walk-on in the place of Ruth and Chappell.
