Matt Cassel Ruled Out; Looking At You, Brodie Croyle

The Kansas City Chiefs will play the San Diego Chargers on Sunday without their starting QB Matt Cassel.

Officially.

There had been some questions of whether or not Cassel would play -- and I'm not sure any of us really thought he would -- but the news is official now that he didn't travel with the team to San Diego.

So that means it's all up to Brodie Croyle, the backup QB. For a backup, you have to like what Croyle brings to the table. We'll see if it's enough to win but I like what he can do. He's been in this offense as long as Cassel now and performed well the last time he started. There's reason to think he can make this game competitive.

Either way, with or without Cassel, the Chiefs game plan likely includes a heavy dose of Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones so we can expect lots and lots of running.
