How Long Will Matt Cassel Be Out? Chiefs Holding Out Hope For Chargers Game

The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Wednesday that QB Matt Cassel underwent an appendectomy. They didn't announce a timetable on his return but the assumption is that he will be unavailable this weekend against the San Diego Chargers.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Chiefs think Sunday's game against San Diego is still possible.

No offiical injury designation until Friday, but Chiefs believe there's a 50 percent chance of Matt Cassel playing. Tough guy, Cassel.

Most other cases we've seen in the past start with a minimum of 10 days out so I think you can probably rule out the San Diego game. The week after that, though, may be more realistic as a possibility. The Chiefs travel to St. Louis to play the Rams.

The Chiefs will turn to Brodie Croyle to lead them in the instance Cassel can't go on Sunday against the Chargers.
