There are five Kansas City Chiefs players in the 2011 Pro Bowl: S Eric Berry, RB Jamaal Charles, WR Dwayne Bowe, G Brian Waters and QB Matt Cassel. Charles, Bowe and Waters were all on the first ballot while Berry and Cassel were voted in as alternates.
Even though that's a sizable number of players, this game won't be very interesting. I'll painfully be watching the game because it's a weak imitation of a real game. I'm not blaming anyone that watching the Pro Bowl is like pulling your nails out because it's just a reality of an all-star game in a contact sport.
The five Chiefs will keep me watching the game but I'd rather not have to see it all. I don't want some of my last offseason memories to be of what is now basically a two hand touch game in pads.
So should we get rid of the Pro Bowl? I'm not sure if that's the solution but I can't think of any way a contact sport like football can have an enjoyable all-star game. Many people like football because of the big hits and the Pro Bowl isn't about the big hits.
But because of the Chiefs in the game I'll be watching it, as boring as it may be. The game takes place on FOX at 6:00 p.m. (CT) on Sunday evening.
