San Diego and emerging running back Curtis Brinkley, formerly third on the Chargers' depth chart, had all but nailed the coffin shut on Kansas City on a long, grinding drive to set up a winning field goal. Rivers fumbled the snap on the Kansas City 15-yard-line, on a play assumed to simply center the ball for a pending field goal from Nick Novak.
Matt Cassel ran a Chiefs hurry-up offense to try and put Kansas City in field goal range with no timeouts and under a minute remaining, but only got 39 yards downfield before throwing an interception at the San Diego 28-yard-line. The two teams have combined for eight turnovers tonight, tying a league record for most in a game this season.
