Last Friday the New England Patriots released cornerback Leigh Bodden, just two years (and $13 million) apart from signing with the squad as a free agent. If he is to be claimed, he must first clear waivers, then can sign with any team who wants his services.
The Chiefs were initially targeted as a potential landing spot for the cornerback and on Wednesday Bodden in fact did visit the Chiefs. While Brandon Carr and Brandon Flowers are entrenched into their starting roles on the Chiefs defense, nickel corner Javier Arenas has struggled in key situations for Todd Haley and a lack of a serviceable alternative is lacking on the Chiefs' roster.
Bodden was placed on injured reserve by the Patriots on August 31, 2010, with a shoulder injury. He missed all of the 2010-11 NFL season. Bodden's best skill is playing against bigger receivers such as the Dolphins' Brandon Marshall, who the Chiefs face this Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium.
