Matt Cassel Reportedly Out For Rest Of Kansas City Chiefs Season, Tyler Palko In

Tyler Palko was already installed as the starter against the New England Patriots on Monday night. If all goes well (or at least fairly well), he was already assumed to be the starter for the foreseeable future. Yet there was always an ounce of doubt as to whether he would last all year since Matt Cassel had yet to be placed on Injured Reserve or called out for the season. Now according to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, Cassel is now officially done.

Joel Thorman over at Arrowhead Pride has the latest word. He writes, “Per Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer on TV a few minutes ago, injured Kansas City Chiefs QB Matt Cassel is out for the rest of the 2011 season. Cassel had surgery on a broken hand last week, which he sustained against the Denver Broncos in Week 10. This is really no surprise. From the day Cassel was injured, there was speculation about the hand injury ending his season. In fact, there were reports that the rest of the Chiefs’ roster was told earlier this week that Cassel was out for the season.”

The Chiefs only back-up now on the roster is Ricky Stanzi, so it will be interesting to see if the Chiefs add a fourth quarterback to the mix once Cassel officially hits injured reserve.
