Kansas City enters halftime trailing 10-3 but with the knowledge that it could have been much worse had the Chiefs not come up with a key stop just before the half forcing the Patriots to settle for a field goal.
While the Chiefs may not feel to bad about being only down seven points, it was a half of missed opportunities as penalties at inopportune times and an interception short circuited drives in the second quarter.
Tyler Palko has looked calm and collected under center for the Chiefs in the first half. His lone mistake came on a pass attempt where he was hit just as he released the ball that resulted in a deflected pass and a Kyle Arrington interception.
Palko finished the half 10-14 for 111 yards and that lone interception. He however has not been able to attack the Patriots' secondary down the field . Thomas Jones has seven catches for 47 yards on the ground while Dwayne Bowe caught four balls for 45 yards in the first half. The Chiefs defense was able to pressure Brady in the first half recording three sacks and forcing one fumble
After struggling early, Tom Brady found some rhythm just before the end of the half. Brady found Rob Gronkowski on a 52 yard scoring strike on what appeared to be a blown coverage by the Chief secondary. That play capped off a 6 play, 85 yard drive that gave the Patriots a 7-3 lead. After regaining possession following the Arrington interception, Brady again marched New England 51 yards before having to settle for a field goal at the end of the half.
Brady finished the half 8-16 for 133 yards and a touchdown. BenJarvus Green-Ellis has 25 yards rushing on eight carries while Gronkowski caught three passes for 77 yards.
