Shane Lechler was already a Pro Bowl punter. He was also one of the reasons why the Oakland Raiders' special teams unit is one of the most dynamic in the country. Lechler and Sebastian Janikowski have more potential than most punters and kickers in the NFL and the two allow Oakland to reach a bit more than most teams can hope for when forced to use them. Thus, Lechler's incredible 80-yard punt from yesterday's game against the Bears is as unsurprising as something like this can possibly be.
The 80-yarder below in the video established a new record for the Oakland Raiders, overcoming the previous 77-yarder by, well, you guessed it: Shane Lechler. Lechler also holds the current NFL record for best career punting average (for anyone over 250 career punts). The NFL record for longest punt is 100 yards by Steve O'Neal back in 1969. Lechler is definitely among the greatest in the history of the game, so he's adding to his Hall of Fame resume at this point. Just check out the video for yourself:
