The signing felt monumental at the time. Then again, with Jared Gaither's incredible size, everything involved can be described that way. Still there was a time when the former Ravens offensive tackle was seen as a great young blindside tackle who could keep opposing pass rushers at bay. When the Kansas City Chiefs signed him this off-season, he was one of the key additions on a line that has needed help at the bookends for some time. Frustratingly, it didn't work out.
Pro Football Talk is reporting that Gaither was cut by the Chiefs this morning and it comes after Gaither got on the field just long enough to commit a quick false start penalty late in the game against the Steelers. It's not surprisingly really since Gaither hadn't earned any real time from practice and seemed cold coming into the game. The tackle now enters the open market on waivers and can be claimed by any team.
