The message, apparently, was unclear. Despite how harsh Denver Broncos' exec John Elway came across in recent words regarding Tim Tebow as the quarterback of the future for the team, Elway now came out to say that he wholeheartedly endorses Tim Tebow as the team's signalcaller and hopes it works well well into the future. To Fox Sports this week, Elway clarified his words. Alex Marvel writes:
John Elway doesn’t hate Tim Tebow. If he did, Elway wouldn’t have personally apologized for recent comments that made it seem the Denver Broncos’ commitment to Tebow was lacking. And while still hesitant to unequivocally proclaim Tebow as the franchise’s "quarterback of the future," Elway wouldn’t be planning to work hands-on with Tebow this offseason if he didn’t think that potential was there.
"Do I know where that ceiling is? I hope that ceiling is a mile high," Elway told FOXSports.com on Thursday from inside his executive vice president’s office at team headquarters. "It’s just hard to predict. I don’t have that answer right now. But there’s nobody more supportive or wants him to be that guy than me."
That's good news for Elway that was he able to back off of his sharp speech from earlier, because it's clear that the entire NFL is swept up in Tebowmania. When your team is in first place and has done so unexpectedly, you ride the wave and back the guys who are in there. It's good that Elway came back around to give Tebow a thumbs-up -- even if it's a temporary one.
