Every week, Sports Illustrated’s Peter King recognizes his favorite performances of the last week with his Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week. The Kansas City Chiefs have to be quite pleased with the attention coming Justin Houston’s way, then, since that means their draft investment is finally coming around the way they were hoping.
Justin Houston had three sacks in yesterday’s game against the Chicago Bears, and the Chiefs poured it on with seven total. Tamba Hali, Jon McGraw, Derrick Johnson and Tyson Jackson also had one and it’s clear the Chicago offensive line is not something any other team would want to deal with. It’s a nice breakout for Houston that several have seen coming for the last couple of weeks.
King writes, “The rookie from Georgia made Caleb Hanie’s life miserable (well, Hanie helped too) with three sacks, two more quarterback hits, a forced fumble and a pass deflected. Houston contributed to a defense that allowed a weakened Bear offense just 181 yards. Great plan by defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel too. He’s having an outstanding run.”
