Rob Rang of CBS Sports and NFLDraftScout.com has his latest mock draft up, and it’s interesting considering what he has to say about the Chiefs selection. Instead of taking an impact player at pass rusher or wide receiver — which is what several mock drafts have the Chiefs taking — Rang has the Chiefs taking the developmental route.
Specifically, Anthony Castonzo is the choice — an offensive tackle from Boston College expected to make a mid-to-late first round splash. But instead of supplanting Branden Albert or Ryan O’Callaghan, Rang expects him to provide depth:
The Chiefs enjoyed better tackle play this year from Branden Albert and Ryan O’Callaghan, but the stellar performances of Kansas City’s skill-position players have hidden a lack of depth on the line. Castonzo’s athleticism and durability are enough to warrant a top 20 selection, but his moderate strength could push him lower. Not needed to play immediately, Castonzo could develop here.
