Former Iowa Hawkeye and Kansas City Chiefs great Ed Podolak suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car on Sunday morning, according to multiple reports. Podolak is in a Scottsdale, Ariz. hospital as of Monday afternoon, his daughter told the Des Moines Register in a statement.
"University of Iowa football color commentator and former Kansas City Chiefs running back Ed Podolak suffered serious injuries when he was hit by a car outside his hotel in Scottsdale, Ariz., early Sunday morning. Podolak suffered major injuries, but is in stable condition at a Scottsdale area hospital. Police say alcohol was not a factor in the crash."
Podolak was one of the great players to lace 'em up for the Chiefs. In a nine-year career from 1969-1977, Podolak became the Chiefs second all-time leading rusher. His 350 total yards in a Christmas day playoff loss to the Miami Dolphins (a/k/a the longest game ever) was a playoff-record.
Best wishes to the Podolak family.
