Chiefs Land Extra Third Round Pick In Trade With Browns

The Kansas City Chiefs have picked up a third round choice in their trade with the Cleveland Browns out of the No. 21 slot in the NFL Draft. With the trade, the Chiefs pick up the No. 70 overall choice — the Browns third rounder — along with the original Falcons first round slot at No. 27 after Cleveland’s earlier trade down in the draft.

With so many players still available linked to the Chiefs, it’s not surprising the Chiefs were at least trying to trade down. Akeem Ayers, Gabe Carimi, Leonard Hankerson, Stephen Paea and several other names are still there for the taking. What’s interesting is that Da’Quan Bowers is still available as well. Perhaps the Chiefs will even bolster the secondary if a player like Jimmy Smith is still available near the end of the first round. Either way, the Chiefs added another important draft slot while being confident the guy they want will still be there.

For the Browns, it makes sense given the need for a space eating defensive tackle. The Chiefs could also grab someone at the same position, but the Browns had already picked up several more draft picks in the Falcons trade. Perhaps the Chiefs are also considering Muhammad Wilkerson at the defensive tackle position and knew some guys would be there.
