The Chicago Bears fired Jerry Angelo almost two weeks ago and they are now working toward a final list of candidates as they try to find the next head of their front office. Lovie Smith is still around, so the Bears' situation is the same as other teams like the St. Louis Rams who found their head coach first before their general manager. That makes this a rarity in the NFL that an incoming GM would have to deal with coaches already in place. One of the possible candidates comes locally from the Kansas City Chiefs in Phil Emery.
Emery is the team's director of college scouting and is the second former Patriots exec also associated with the job search. Jason Licht is the latest to be interviewed and the Chicago Tribune notes that others include the San Diego Chargers Jimmy Raye III and Marc Ross from the New York Giants. Every candidate comes from a college scouting or player personnel background.
