In their latest six round mock draft, the guys over at Drafttek have the Kansas City Chiefs helping to bolster their offensive backfield with the addition of David Wilson in the third round. The Virginia Tech back has 4.4 speed and excellent acceleration and could be a feature back for several teams. Given the state of the Chiefs current backfield with the loss of Jamaal Charles and Jackie Battle to injury this season, they could definitely use some reserves.
Thomas Jones should not be expected back given his slip in production in recent years. Todd Haley was also the primary champion, at least vocally, for Jones' presence and it's time for the Chiefs to move on as Charles becomes the key veteran there. Remember, the Chiefs also drafted Larry Johnson when they already had a fine backfield and that worked out quite well.
Wes Bunting of the National Football Post particularly likes Wilson's game and calls him the second best back available. Bunting writes, "He's a compact kid who runs stronger/harder than you would expect from a guy his size. Has a dynamic quality to his game both inside and in the open field, and looks capable of maturing into a very good NFL running back early on in the NFL."
