Peter King Says Kyle Orton Has A 'C-Plus Ceiling' As NFL Starting Quarterback

In a recent mailbag column over at Sports Illustrated, Peter King, the magazine's NFL columnist of Monday Morning Quarterback, received an inquiry about Kyle Orton and his potential for next season. King gave Orton some positive comments and likes him more than some others who are also receiving playing time in the NFL, but Chiefs fans cannot feel good about this description if Orton is going to remain the starter into next season for KC.

King writes, "Re: Orton, I like him, and I think he's better than Rex Grossman and probably (but not certainly) better than Matt Moore in Miami. But the problem with Orton, as owner Steve Ross in Miami discovered early this year when he quashed the Orton-to-Miami deal, you have to ask yourself if you're willing to make a multi-year commitment to a guy who's never had a great season, and seems to have a C-plus ceiling."

Orton led the Chiefs to a 2-1 record in his final three games of the season and his strengths and weaknesses were quite clear in the process. Whether the Chiefs go with Orton or Matt Cassel next season remains to be seen, but it will be interesting how the Chiefs quarterback situation shakes out in the end.
