Week 9 NFL odds: Chiefs vs. Chargers

New, 1 comment

The Chiefs and Chargers both face the largest spread each team has seen this season

John Rieger-US PRESSWIRE

The last time the Chiefs were underdogs by more than a touchdown, they not only covered but won outright in New Orleans. With a 9-point spread in their favor against San Diego Thursday night, the Chiefs and their backers look to strike lightning twice.

The teams previously played in Week 4, where the Chargers handily covered a 2-point spread when the Chiefs' season looked far less dismal. A failure to cover at home against Oakland last week made Kansas City 2-5 against the spread this season, and probable underdogs in every game the rest of the way.

San Diego outperformed in three of their first four match ups, including the game in Kansas City, but has failed to do so in their last three games, the most recent of which was a 7-6 squeaker against the Browns. This is the largest spread for the Chargers all season, the previous high being a 6-point line they covered easily against Tennessee.

The total of 42.5 represents question marks on the offensive side for both teams. The Chargers could only muster two field goals against Cleveland, and Kansas City's quarterback carousel has undermined any faith in their ability to score points. They have scored just over ten points per game in their last three.
