Steve Hoffman Fired By Chiefs, Hired By Oakland Raiders As Special Teams Coach

Steve Hoffman wasn't unemployed for very long. In fact, he's staying in very familiar territory. The former special teams coach of the Kansas City Chiefs is reportedly jumping to a division rival to take the same position with the Oakland Raiders. Hoffman is replacing John Fassel who was the Raiders special teams coach last season who just went to join Jeff Fisher with the new look St. Louis Rams. And if that sounds like a lot of musical chairs, that's because it is.

The Raiders have the absolute best kicking team in the NFL behind the Pro Bowl legs of Sebastian Janikowski and Shane Lechler. Lechler is likely the best punter of his generation and perhaps in NFL history, so it's clear that Hoffman has a stacked deck to work with. The Chiefs moved on after some late season gaffes and blame had to be placed. But overall, Hoffman has maintained a fine reputation in the NFL.
