NFL Mock Draft 2012: Jonathan Martin To Kansas City Chiefs In First Round

Don Banks has released his latest mock draft over at Sports Illustrated before the 2012 NFL Combine and it’s another prediction for the Kansas City Chiefs to take an offensive tackle in the 2012 NFL Draft’s first round. The Chiefs pick at No. 11 or 12 and Jonathan Martin of Stanford is the pick in Banks’ latest. He writes:

The Chiefs have to upgrade at right offensive tackle, and Martin is the most obvious direction to head with both Kalil and Reiff already gone. An inside linebacker like Boston College’s Luke Kuechly or a defensive tackle like Memphis’ Dontari Poe would fill other areas of need with players who will wind up with grades in the top 15-20 range.

Any of those options makes sense and at this point it’s like ringing a familiar bell with the amount of mock drafts that have the Chiefs going offensive tackle. It’s the ideal need and value mix for the Chiefs that it’s almost impossible to consider anything else. The drop off from the top tackles in the draft to the second tier is too much compared to other positions for Pioli to anything different.
