Chiefs Could Use Franchise Tag On Dwayne Bowe, According To A Source

The Kansas City Chiefs could be placing the franchise tag on veteran wide receiver Dwayne Bowe if the two sides can not reach an agreement on a new contract, this is according to a league source. Bowe did have a career-high with 81 receptions and had his third season over 1,000 yards receiving.

Bowe was able to achieve those numbers even though the quarterback situation was not stable for the Chiefs in 2011. In Bowe's five-year career he has had 1,000 yards in three of those seasons and has 36 career touchdowns.

If Bowe is to receive the franchise tag his 2012 salary would be guaranteed at $9.5 million. The franchise tag amount is actually less than what it was in years past because of the new collective bargaining agreement, so there could be a rash of teams looking to use this since it could be less than signing the player to a multi-year contract.
