NFL Mock Draft 2012: Trent Richardson Again Projected To Be A Chief

Former Alabama Crimson Tide running back Trent Richardson is once again being linked to the Kansas City Chiefs with their first round pick. Running back is a position of need for the Chiefs especially since Jamaal Charles is coming off of a torn ACL, so depth will be needed to help ease the carry load for Charles.

Walter Football has the Chiefs taking Richardson with their first round picks:

No. 11 Kansas City Chiefs: Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama

Jamaal Charles will be back next year, but the Chiefs have never been convinced that he can carry the load. That's even a more unreasonable expectation in 2012 given that he's coming off a torn ACL.

Richardson is the best running back prospect since Peterson. Taking him here is the right move because you don't choose a Levi Brown over an Adrian Peterson.Trent Richardson is by far the top player available. He would give Kansas City the top one-two punch at running back in the NFL.

For Chief fans who want a tackle or something else over Richardson, let me remind you of Arizona's 2007 NFL Draft. The Cardinals had a very slight need at running back (as much as Kansas City needs one), and Adrian Peterson was on the board at No. 5. They instead opted to take an inferior talent who filled a much bigger need. Five years later, I'm sure Arizona would rather have Peterson over Levi Brown.

Walter Football's mock draft goes four rounds deep and the second round selection address the Chiefs need for help on the offensive line since their current right tackle Barry Richardson is not getting the job done and Walter Football has the Chiefs taking Florida St. Seminoles right tackle Zebrie Sanders.

The third round pick is Iowa State running back Leonard Johnson and could be a need if the Chiefs can not resign Brandon Carr, and the fourth round projected pick is Missouri tight end Michael Egnew. Tight end is a need for the Chiefs since Tony Moeaki is coming off an ACL injury.
