The cornerback market is going to be very interesting to follow because there are several strong starters available via free agency. From Brandon Carr to Cortland Finnegan and several second-tier players, NFL teams are going to have plenty of vets to choose from in their attempts to slow down the pass happy offenses of the NFL.
The New York Giants just kept Terrell Thomas off the open market, but in the process, Evan Silva says that the team will set Aaron Ross free. The five year veteran started 15 games last year and had 4 interceptions. He also brings championship experience to whoever signs him.
The Vikings are on the opposite end, needing a lot of help in the secondary and the team will be tempted to take Morris Claiborne with the No. 3 choice in the NFL Draft. Since they are predicted to likely go offensive line instead, the team is likely to strike in free agency for a starter. Shawn Zobel links them to both the 49ers’ Carlos Rogers and the Titans’ Cortland Finnegan.
Brandon Carr is still linked with the Dallas Cowboys, so it will be interesting to see if the salary cap punishments laid out yesterday will have any bearing on such a top tier signing for Jerry Jones.
