NFL Free Agency: Bucs, Broncos, Bengals Have Most Cap Room Available

As teams get ready to open their wallets for the high-priced likes of Peyton Manning, Mario Williams, Brandon Carr and Vincent Jackson, some will have more than others to utilize. While teams like the Raiders and Steelers are doing their best to squeeze under the cap, Adam Schefter says the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Denver Broncos and Cincinnati Bengals have the most cap room to work with.

On Twitter he lays out the amount for each: “Tampa Bay, Cincinnati and Denver have most cap room. Tampa Bay is about $44 million under cap, Cincinnati $41 million, Denver $38 million.” The Broncos and Bengals turned a major corner last year, so both of those teams can expect to try to fill further holes to face a tougher schedule in 2012.

As for the Bucs, they have taken the opposite path and tanked last season amid high expectations. A new head coach is going to want to bring in several new players, but questions remain as to whether players really want to go to Tampa at this point. If the money is good, however, most players won’t have a problem.

The Chiefs are among the teams with the most cap room as well, sitting around $32 million after signing Stanford Routt at cornerback and retaining Dwayne Bowe.

The NFL free agency period opens at 3pm CT today.
