Chad Henne Lands 2-Year Contract With Jacksonville Jaguars, Leaves Chiefs With Fewer Options

The Jacksonville Jaguars are retooling their offense today with the signings of Laurent Robinson at wide receiver and now Chad Henne at quarterback to compete and give support on the depth chart with Blaine Gabbert. Tania Ganguli reports from the Florida Times-Union that Henne signed a two-year contract today with the Jags.

The news impacts the free agent quarterback market, and things are becoming very interesting for a Chiefs team that wanted competition and publicly said so for Matt Cassel yet has nothing to show for it. Jason Campbell? Gone. Kyle Orton? Taken. Peyton Manning? No chance. Now Chad Henne, another quarterback linked to the team, is spoken for.

There’s not much left in the way of competition, but perhaps the Lions’ Shaun Hill or David Garrard will enter the conversation. For now, everyone who was involved in the discussions before free agency has gone elsewhere and the Chiefs still have Matt Cassel and Ricky Stanzi as the lone options. Perhaps the draft is where the team will find their man.
