Chiefs Free Agency 2012: Kevin Boss Signs Three-Year Contract With Kansas City

The Kansas City Chiefs picked up a veteran backup to use as insurance for Tony Moeaki at tight end late on Thursday when they signed Kevin Boss to a three-year contract reportedly worth $9 million.

Boss, who signed a four-year, $16 million deal with the Oakland Raiders last August before being released by Oakland on Tuesday, made his first visit as a free agent to the Chiefs, and obviously didn't leave Kansas City without a contract.

Boss has 147 catches for 1,968 yards and 21 touchdowns in five seasons with the New York Giants and Raiders, and had 28 catches for 368 yards and three touchdowns in 11 starts Oakland in 2011. That alone would be an upgrade on the production the Chiefs received from the position last season: Moeaki suffered a season-ending injury in Kansas City's final preseason game and Chiefs tight ends recorded 34 catches collectively in his stead.
