The San Diego Chargers backfield is likely to take a hit this offseason with the loss of Mike Tolbert as he makes his way around the NFL in free agency. He’s already had a visit with the Kansas CIty Chiefs and Jason La Canfora reports that he’s now making his way to the East Coast.
La Canfora writes, “According to league sources, Mike Tolbert remains in Carolina on Sunday night, having dinner with Panthers team officials. He previously visited Kansas City, but the Chiefs signed Peyton Hillis instead, and Tolbert’s return to the Chargers seems unlikely at best at this point.”
Tolbert is a special teams ace and a great goal line back. It will be interesting to see where he lands. The chances of signing with the Chiefs are close to nil at this point, since the team already invested in Peyton Hillis. Whoever lands Tolbert, they’ll enjoy the versatility of an unheralded back.
