NFL Mock Draft 2012: Chiefs Take Dre Kirkpatrick From Alabama

In the latest NFL Mock Draft done by SB Nation's Ryan Van Beeber, the Kansas City Chiefs are spending the No. 11 overall pick on Alabama Crimson Tide cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick.

With former Chief Brandon Carr signing with the Dallas Cowboys this off-season, positions have opened up in the Kansas City secondary. Here is Van Beeber's analysis on the Kirkpatrick pick:

"The Chiefs were busy in free agency, filling their most glaring roster needs. They signed Stanford Routt to replace Brandon Carr, and paired with Brandon Flowers, that's a good duo of corners. Drafting Kirkpatrick gives them a trio of good corners. Depth and flexibility."

The 6-3, 192-pound Kirkpatrick started in 12 games for the Crimson Tide in 2011, and has 24 starts for Alabama under his belt. Kirkpatrick has gone through a bit of off-the-field trouble, having been arrested for possession of marijuana in January. Those charges were later dropped.
