Chiefs Free Agency: Jackie Battle Visits With San Diego Chargers

With Ryan Mathews injury history at the running back position, the San Diego Chargers are searching for some help to bolster the backfield. The team has already lost Mike Tolbert this offseason to the Carolina Panthers, who signed the running back to a four-year contract.

Mike Gehlken of the Union-Tribune writes, “The Chargers, still looking to add a veteran backup to Ryan Mathews, had a visitor Tuesday. Running back Jackie Battle met with team personnel and toured the Chargers facility as one of four candidates in the mix to join the backfield.”

It’s unknown who exactly Gehlken means by four candidates. Perhaps Michael Bush is in the picture or even Cedric Benson. Battle would join Le’Ron McClain as former Chiefs heading to the Chargers, since the former Kansas City fullback signed a three-year contract earlier in free agency with the team. Battle ran 149 times last season for 597 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns.
