NFL Mock Draft 2012: Dre Kirkpatrick Falls To Chiefs In Sporting News Mock

The Kansas City Chiefs are without Brandon Carr in 2012 for the first time since they drafted him in the fifth round of the 2008 NFL Draft out of Grand Valley State. Carr started every game since coming into the league and formed a dynamic tandem with Brandon Flowers in the promising KC secondary. Now the team has moved on to Stanford Routt and likely hopes that another young corner will step up.

They might end up adding one if Russ Lande of the Sporting News is correct. In his latest mock for the 2012 NFL Draft, Lande has the Chiefs taking Alabama product Dre Kirkpatrick.

Lande writes, "The Chiefs upgraded at the right tackle position this weekend, grabbing Eric Winston off the scrap heap. The loss of Brandon Carr hurts, though, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Scott Pioli reached and grabbed Kirkpatrick with the 11th pick. A 6-0 DB with top-flight speed (think Patrick Peterson speed), Kirkpatrick is the rare tall cornerback who can keep up with the game’s fastest receivers."

Kirkpatrick is not the man corner that the Chiefs have went with in the past, so it would be interesting to see them pass up Janoris Jenkins if both are available. That said, Kirkpatrick would definitely be an asset for any team.
