NFL Mock Draft: Mark Barron To Chiefs At No. 11 In Mike Mayock's Latest

The Kansas City Chiefs already reached out for a safety early in the first round once in Scott Pioli’s tenure. The result was an immediate Pro Bowl season for rookie Eric Berry. Could Pioli do the same thing again for Alabama’s Mark Barron? Mike Mayock thinks so, as he has the safety headed to the Chiefs in his latest mock for the 2012 NFL Draft that starts Thursday night.

Moving Kendrick Lewis to the third safety spot would definitely vastly improve the Chiefs secondary. Lewis would still play a major share of downs given the pass happy nature of the NFL and specifically the AFC West. Having two elite-level playmakers at the safety positions would also allow give new head coach Romeo Crennel another impact player on the defense.

In Mayock’s mock, Luke Kuechly was taken at No. 10 by the Buffalo Bills, so he wasn’t even an option for KC to consider. Barron had 41 tackles, 2 interceptions and 1 sack last year for the Crimson Tide.
